One of Arabian racing’s premiere photographers is Texas-based Leslie Gicewicz. “Many years ago I somehow just started taking pictures. I have had several cameras but never the patience for classes. I simply began by taking pictures of family weddings, trees, flowers, critters and most recently, the horses we all own and love.”
After a 26-year career as an Air Traffic Controller, Leslie retired in 2005 and what started as a little girl in love with all things “horse” quickly evolved into a business with her husband, Richard Polk. “Our Arabian racing experience began as a partnership with my sister and has now become a solo as Oakcrest Farms LLC. We currently own twelve horses, two that are running at Delaware Park.”
Leslie is a member of the Arabian Jockey Club Racing Committee, the Stakes Committee, and has been on the board of the Texas Arabian Breeders Association.
Among Arabian racing aficionados, Leslie noted is noted for her adept eye and quality photography. Her pictures have been published in the Arabian Horse World, Arabian Horse Times, Finish Line, Desert Mirage and Modern Arabian Horse Magazines. She has created slide shows for the annual Darley Awards, the “Eclipse Awards” of the Arabian racing community, and her photographs are featured at the Arabian Horse Galleries in the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, Kentucky.
Leslie and her husband live in Willis, Texas, north of Houston, with their horses, a dog and five cats.
